Arise, Shine

01. When I Survey

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride
Forbid it Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns so compose so rich a crown!
Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were a present  far too small
Love so amazing, Love so amazing, so divine, and so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
~Words:  Isaac Watts  Music:  Traditional English Folk Song - The Water is Wide

02. Psalm One

How blessed is the man who does not take his stand in the way of wicked men
But oh the law of the Lord, it is his chief delight!
And in His law he meditates both day and night

And he shall surely be like a green, green tree, planted by streams of water
And he shall surely be like a green green tree
And everything he does shall prosper.

The wicked are not so, but when the wind does blow, like dust they all blow away
The way of wicked men will perish in the end
Oh but God, He loves the righteous' way

And he shall surely be like a green, green tree, planted by streams of water
And he shall surely be like a green green tree
And everything he does shall prosper.

And he shall surely be like a green, green tree, planted by streams of water
And he shall surely be like a green green tree
And everything he does shall prosper.

04. Candle of Faith

(Spoken by grandmother)
"But I always hunted for God, wonderin' where He is at.  And I found Him at last; and I was always, I was always thinkin' about God an' the Lord."

I had a grandmother, loving and kind
A hard-working, God-fearing lady
And He lit a candle of faith in her heart
And we saw it burning inside her
And through many sorrows it flickered and faded
But He kept it burning so brightly, oh
And she passed the candle to her children saying
"Never let it die, hold it tightly."

In her daughter, my mother, He was the bright light
Shining by night and by day
And when we were lost or wandering in darkness
Her candle lighted our way
And through many sorrows it flickered and faded
But He kept it burning so brightly
And she passed the candle to her children saying,
"Never let it die, hold it tightly."

He lit a candle of faith in their hearts
And with His glory their darkness was filled
Lord, make it shine through the coming generations
Like a city that's set on a hill.

Down through the years I have guarded the candle
Though often the flame has grown dim
And I know that my light will only be radiant
By faithfully trusting in Him
Now I pass the candle to my children, praying
That in them His love will remain
and may they hold fast to the faith of their fathers:
"Keep the candle burning, never break the chain."

He lit a candle of faith in our hearts
And with His glory our darkness was filled
Lord, make it shine through the coming generations
Like a city that's set on a hill.

Lord, make it shine through the coming generations
Like a city that's set on a hill.

05. Praise Him!  Praise Him!

Praise Him!  Praise Him!  Jesus our blessed Redeemer!
Sing, oh earth, His wonderful love proclaim!
Hail Him!  Hail Him!  Highest archangels in glory!
Strength and honor give to His holy name!
Like a shepherd Jesus will guard His children
In His arms He carries them all day long

Praise Him!  Praise Him!
Tell of His excellent greatness, praise Him!
Praise Him, ever in joyful song!

Praise Him!  Praise Him!  Jesus our blessed Redeemer
For our sins He suffered and bled and died
He our rock, our hope of eternal salvation
Hail Him!  Hail Him!  Jesus the crucified
Sound His praises, Jesus who bore our sorrows
Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong!

Praise Him!  Praise Him!
Tell of His excellent greatness, praise Him!
Praise Him, ever in joyful song!

Praise Him!  Praise Him!
Tell of His excellent greatness, praise Him!
Praise Him, ever in joyful song!

Praise Him!  Praise Him!
Tell of His excellent greatness, praise Him!
Praise Him, ever in joyful song!
~Words:  Fanny Crosby, 1869  Music:  Darwin Jordan

06. Arise!  Shine!

A horrible and shocking thing has happened in our land
The prophets prophesy their lies, and the priests see things through their own eyes
They rule by their own authority
It seems they have forgotten Me
They have turned aside, they have gone away, and My people love it this way!
But what about judgment day?!

Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!

My people do not fear my name, rather take my name in vain
They're rich and powerful, fat with pride
Where is my beautiful blood-bought bride?
She's playing "harlot" with the world
Traded my glory for a dime-store pearl
She has no conscience for all her sin
But what will she do in the end?
What will she do in the end?!

Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!

If my people who are called by my name, would humble themselves and pray!
If they would seek my face, turn from their wicked ways, then I would hear, and I would forgive
And I would heal their land!
And I would heal their land!

Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
Arise!  Shine!…Arise, shine…For your Light is come!
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!

07. He is the One

For every season, there is a rhyme and reason
For every question, His answer stands
For each temptation, a victory celebration
For every struggle, God's helping hand

He is the One
He is the One
He is our great unchanging God

For every sorrow, there is a new tomorrow
For every weakness, His Spirit strong
For death's dejection, a glorious resurrection
For all our weeping, oh, His morning song

He is the One
He is the One
He is our great unchanging God

He is the light out in darkness
He is the calm inside the storm
He is the peace when war is raging
He is the fire that makes cold so warm

For every season, there is a rhyme and reason
For every question, His answer stands
For each temptation, a victory celebration
For every struggle, oh, God's helping hand

He is the One, oh,
He is the One
He is our great unchanging God

08. Come Ye Sinners

Come, ye sinners poor and wretched, weak and wounded, sick and sore
Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity joined with power
He is able, He is able, He is willing, doubt no more

Come, ye needy, come and welcome, God's free bounty glorify
True belief and true repentance, every grace that brings you nigh
Without money, without money, come to Jesus Christ and buy

Come, ye weary, heavy laden, bruised and broken by the fall
If you tarry till you're better, you will never come at all
Not the righteous, not the righteous, sinners Jesus came to call

Let not conscience make you linger, nor of fitness fondly dream
All the fitness He requireth is to see your need of Him
This He gives you, this He gives you, 'tis the Spirit's rising beam

Lo! the incarnate God ascended, pleads the merit of His blood
Venture on Him, venture wholly, let no other trust intrude
None but Jesus, none but Jesus, can do helpless sinners good

Come, ye sinners poor and wretched, weak and wounded, sick and sore.
~Words:  Joseph Hart  Music:  Darwin Jordan

09. Jesus Saves

We have heard the joyful sound
Jesus saves, oh Jesus Saves!
Spread the tidings all around
Jesus saves, oh Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land
Climb the steeps and cross the waves
Onward 'tis our Lord's command
Oh Jesus saves!
Sing above the battle strife
Jesus saves, oh Jesus saves!
By His death and endless life
Jesus saves, oh Jesus saves!
Sing it softly through the gloom
When the heart for mercy craves
Sing in triumph over the tomb
Oh Jesus saves!
Give the winds a mighty voice
Jesus saves, oh Jesus saves!
Let the nations now rejoice
Jesus saves, oh Jesus saves!
Shout salvation, full and free
Highest hills and deepest caves
This our song of victory
Oh Jesus saves!
~Words:  Priscilla J. Owens, 1829-1899  Music:  Jackie James

10. How Firm a Foundation Medley

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He has said;
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

In shady green pastures so rich and so sweet God leads His dear children along
Where the water's cool flow bathes the weary one's feet, God leads His dear children along
Some through the water
Some through the flood
Some through the fire
But all through the blood
Some throw great sorrow, but God gives a song
In the night season and all the day long

Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee
E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me
Still all my song shall be "Nearer my God to Thee!"
Nearer my God to Thee
Nearer to Thee

Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me
See on the portals He's waiting and watching, watching for you and for me
Come home, Come home
Ye who are weary come home!
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, "Oh, sinner, come home."
~How Firm a Foundation:  "K" in Rippion's Selection, 1787; God Leads His Dear Children Along:  George A. Young, 1903; Nearer My God to Thee:  Lowell Mason, 1856; Softly and Tenderly:  Will L. Thompson, 1847-1909

11. The Mercy Seat

From every stormy wind that blows,
From every swelling tide of woes,
There is a calm, a sure retreat;
’Tis found beneath the mercy seat.

There is a place where Jesus sheds
The oil of gladness on our heads;
A place than all besides more sweet;
It is the blood-stained mercy seat.

There is a spot where spirits blend,
Where friend holds fellowship with friend;
Though sundered far, by faith they meet
Around one common mercy seat.

Ah, wither would we flee for aid
When tempted, desolate, dismayed,
Or how the hosts of hell defeat,
Had suffering saints no mercy seat?

There, there, on eagles’ wings we soar,
And time and sense seem all no more;
And heaven comes down, our souls to greet,
And glory crowns the mercy seat.

Oh, may my hand forget her skill,
My tongue be silent, cold, and still,
This bounding heart forget to beat,
If I forget the mercy seat!
~Hugh Stowell

12. How Sweet and Awful

How sweet and awful is the place
With Christ within the doors,
While everlasting love displays
The choicest of her stores!

While all our hearts and all our songs
Join to admire the feast,
Each of us cry, with thankful tongues,
“Lord, why was I a guest?

“Why was I made to hear Thy voice,
And enter while there’s room,
When thousands make a wretched choice,
And rather starve than come?”

’Twas the same love that spread the feast
That sweetly drew us in;
Else we had still refused to taste,
And perished in our sin.

Pity the nations, O our God!
Constrain the earth to come;
Send Thy victorious Word abroad,
And bring the strangers home.

We long to see Thy churches full,
That all the chosen race
May with one voice, and heart and soul,
Sing Thy redeeming grace.
~Words:  Isaac Watts   Music:  St. Columbia, ancient Irish melody

13. Amazing Grace

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
~Words:  John Newton  Music:  New Britain by James P. Carrell and David S. Clayton
